I think the freezes are being caused by faulty capacitors, do you think I am
on the right track? There is nothing showing in Event Viewer. The freezes
are: Computer stops responding to either mouse or keyboard, I lose all work
I am working on, and a reset is the only way to get it started again. No
error messages. This happens several times a day. It started when I
reinstalled XP so I thought it was a configuration problem but now I'm not
so sure.

what do you think? If these capacitors are shot, can they be replaced or am
I up for a new mobo? <gulp>

thanks

Pixel Warrior - I am having the same sort of problem with my wife'
computer, a Dell Dimension 8250, new in January 2003. The OS is WIN X
Home. Worked fine for fourteen months. Lately it will boot smoothl
and run OK for a time, but freezes as you describe, often after a
attempt to use a drop down menu or enter info (such as the Certificat
of Authenticity when I try to reinstall or repair WIN XP). There wer
no new hardware or software additions in recent months. I used syste
restore from "way back", thought I had it licked, then another freeze.
I've scanned for viruses several times, both with the installed (an
reinstalled) updated Norton AV 2003 and by online using Trend Micro'
Housecall = no viruses found. It's not running hot.
So, my question is, were you able to solve your problem since you
original post in January? Any suggestions? If I stumble onto
solution I'll let you know. Thanks

Could be something like overheating ...
Try cleaning out the dust from the machine, check all the internal fans are
working, and then point a big fan at the computer.
