512 mb of Crucial Ballistix PC-3200 DDR. You'll find it impossible to use 1GB of RAM unless you do some insane 3D rendering or frame by frame movie editing or something, so you might as well take the extra speed.

I think you'd be better off with the 512 of PC3200 as well, assuming your board can take advantage of it.

As for the question of whether a Gig of RAM can be used, I dunno really, but I will say that all machines I've put a Gig of RAM in operate a lot faster. Hard to explain, sort of 'zippier' or more responsive. That's not a benchmark or an analysis, just a real life observation.

Go for the 512, you can always add another 512 later as and when you can afford it.

If your processor has a FSB of 400Mhz and the motherboard the same, the 512 PC3200 will outperform 1gig 2100 any day of the week.

i agree too

if it's an upgrade ur doing - then don't use all old memory along with the new stuff - unless it 3200 - or it will run at slowest speed !
