When I purchased my DELL computer a few years back it came
pre-installed with WindowsME along with a "reinstallation"
CD of the OS. Now since I don't have the original (i.e.
actual) full version CD of WindowsME, will I still be able
to purchase the WindowsXP upgrade CD or will I have to buy
the non-upgrade version?

I thought I read somewhere that having a re-installation
CD doesn't qualify for product upgrade, but a friend said
it does qualify, so basically I don't know.

If anyone has the answer please email me as well as post.

Thanks,
Vicki

Yes it does. The only catch is that you have to have ME installed on
your hard drive so the 'upgrade' disk can find the OS that qualifies.
Normally the XP upgrade process will ask for the CD of a qualifying OS
if it can't detect one that is already installed, this is where your
Restore CD from Dell won't work.

I believe Dell provides a real operating system cd, not just a restore
cd. However, you'd do best to confirm this with Dell first.
