I have an ASUS A7N8X Deluxe Motherbord fitted with 2800
processor and 512Mb, 400 speed memory and have just
replaced my IDE hard drive with a SATA 80Gb Hard drive
(single), Windows 98 works fine but I cannot install XP It
gets half way thro installation and then go to a blue
screen when the system re-boots to copy files. I have
loaded the SATA Raid drivers on Windows 98 and they seem
to be fine, although Windows 98 does not seem to need them?
The XP compatbility list seem to indicate that "SCSI
Silicone Image Sil 3112 SATARaid Controllers are not
compatible. I am assuming this might be the problem.
Can somebody help as I have been unable to resolve.

Hi, Ian.

You must get the WinXP drivers for your SATA controller onto a floppy
diskette. If the drivers did not come in the box with the hardware, then
you will need to download them from somewhere (ask ASUS).

Then boot from the WinXP CD-ROM and start Setup. Very early in the setup
process, it will briefly flash a message to Press F6 if you need to install
RAID or other drivers. Press F6 and wait for further instructions on how to
use the floppy to install the drivers.

This is not necessary if you want to use advanced controllers/drives for
secondary storage; their drivers can be installed from Device Manager as
usual. But, to use such a drive as the boot device, Setup must be allowed
to integrate the driver into WinXP.
