Problem with Outlook Notes when closing Outlook

Hi @ all!

I've got a big problem with Outlook 2003.

When I do something within my notes (it's enough to only open and close one
of them) and later close Outlook on my computer, I get a Error message which
says "Der Vorgang kann nicht erfolgreich abgeschlossen werden. Mindestens
ein Parameterwert ist nicht gültig." (Translation: Could not complete the
operation. One or more parameter values are not valid.). When I click "OK" I
get another message which says "Die Notiz wird geschlossen und Ihre
Änderungen werden nicht gespeichert." (Translation: One or more of your
changes could not be saved.). Unlike the error message my changes are all
saved and nothing is lost.

Already found this problem on some posts in the German newsgroup section,
but nowhere a post about a solution. So probably there's more luck with a
post in the English section?! ;-)

Hope someone can help me, cause this error is driving me mad.

Things I've already tried:

- Removing all previous messages from my notes

- The Office repair function

- Uninstalling and reinstalling Office

- Deleting frmcache.dat

My Environment:

- Office2003 Prof. on Windows XP Prof. SP2 connecting to a SBS2003.

Thank you very much in advance!

Hi Werner,

Thanks for your posting here.

As you are unsing Outlook 2003 German, I recommend you submit it in Geman
newsgoup for a localized product. These newsgroups are geared to answer on
the English version of the product. For support for localized versions we
request that use the support resources appropriate to that language.

Although, we suggest you submit in Geman newsgoup,I would like to provide
you with some suggestions.

Please first test the problematic account on another Outlook client to see
if the issue is able to be reproduced.

If the issue is uable to be reproduced, then it is mostly related to
corrupted setting on the Outlook client. You may use the following steps to
trouleshoot it:

1. New Outlook profile
=============
Please create a new profile to isolate the issue.
For the steps on how to create a new profile, refer to the following
Microsoft Knowledge Base (KB) article:

829918 How to create a new e-mail profile in Outlook 2003
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=829918

Try to test the issue with the Outlook profile.

2. Outlook Safe Mode
=================
a. Click Start, and then point to Programs.
b. Press CTRL while you click the shortcut for Outlook that you want to
start.
c. Hold down CTRL until you receive a message similar to the following:
"Outlook has detected that you are holding down the CTRL key. Do you want
to start Outlook in safe mode?" Click Yes.

3. Clean Boot
====================
Please disable all the third-party startup items, especially the antivirus
applications.

If the behavior can be reproduced, then the account's mailbox may be
corrupted. Please recreate the problematic mailbox using the following
instructions:

1. Use Exmerge tool to export mailbox to PST file.

To use Exmerge, refer to the following article:
174197 XADM: Microsoft Exchange Mailbox Merge Program (Exmerge.exe)
Information
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=174197

2. Open the PST file from some other Outlook client to verify if we can
access inbox in the PST file.

3. If the PST file is good, go to ADUC (Active Directory Users and
Computers), right-click the problematic user and then click Exchange tasks.
Select remove exchange attributes.

4. Right-click the user again and then click Exchange tasks. Select create
mailbox.

5. Import PST back into mailbox using Exmerge or Outlook.

Hope this helps! Thanks and have a nice day!

Thanks & Regards

hi alan,

first of all thanks for your answer and sorry for my late reply.

i'm writing to the english newsgroup section cause on the postings to the
same
problem in the german newsgroup i didn't find a solution for the problem and
the
german outlook newsgroup is no managed newsgroup for technet subscribers.

to your suggestion number 1:
i've created a new outlook profile as described, but i've got the same
problem
there.

to your suggestion number 2:
even if i start outlook in safe mode i get the same error.

to your suggestion number 3:
restartíng and doing a clean boot doesn't solve the problem either.

i've tried two other things:
creating another user on the server and using this account on my computer
i get the same error message within outlook.

using my account on another users computer everything is fine and i don't
get
a error message.

so my account's mailbox must be ok??!

seems like the problem is outlook itself but reinstalling or repairing isn't
a
working solution.

do you have any other idea?

thanks again!

Hi Werner,

Thanks for your posting back.

Based on the further informaiton, the mail account/mailbox has no problem,
and this issue is mostly caused malfunction of the Outlook client.

At this point, I suggest you completely Uninstall Office 2003 and then
reinstall it.To do so, you may refer to the following steps:

1. Download the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility on your desktop.

http://download.microsoft.com/download/E/9/D/E9D80355-7AB4-45B8-80E8-983A48D
5E1BD/msicuu2.exe

More info:
290301 Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=290301

2. After you install the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility, click Start
menu-> All Programs-> Windows Install Clean Up.

3. Highlight Microsoft Office 2003 entry in the list and then click Remove.
Please don't remove any other entries in the list.

4. Click OK and wait for the process to end.

Note: If you cannot see Microsoft Office 2003 in the list, please remove it
from "Add or Remove Programs" in the Control Panel and then move on to step
6.

5. Click Exit to close the Windows Installer Cleanup utility.

6. Click Start menu-> Run, type "regedit" (without the quotation marks) in
the Open box and press Enter.

7. Locate the following two registry keys and click Delete from the Edit
menu.
Click OK on the pop-up warning dialog box.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0

8. Delete the "Microsoft Office" folder located in the C:\Program Files.

9. Show all hidden files:

A) Click "Start" the "Control Panel".
B) Open "Folder Options".
C) Click the "View" tab.
D) Ensure the circle is filled in for "Show hidden files and folders".
E) If checked, uncheck the box for "Hide extensions for known file types".
F) Click Ok and close out of all windows.

10. Delete the Office Mapi folder. By default, this folder is:
C:\program files\common files\system\msmapi

11. Click Start menu-> Run, type "%Temp%" (without the quotation marks) in
the Open box and press Enter.

12. Empty the Temp folder.

13. Empty the Recycle Bin.

14. Restart your computer and then install a full version of Office 2003.

If you have anything unclear about the above steps, feel free to let me
know. I am standing by for your update.

Have a good day!

Hi Alan,

thanks for your new suggestion. Will have time to try it the upcoming
weekend.

Is there a way to save the settings (including passwords) of my pop3
accounts i use in addition to my exchange account (there are many accounts
from many different providers i have in use).

Thanks again!
Werner

Hi Werner,

Thanks for your posting back.

You can perform my suggestions when you have time. Please inform me of the
results when you finish the steps.

What do you mean by saying "save the settings"? Do you mean that you want
to export pop3 accounts' settings? Unfortunately, there is no way to
export/import pop3 account setting in Outlook 2002/2003.

What's more, we don't recommend you configure Exchange account and Pop3
accounts in the same profile.

If anything is unclear, feel free to let me know. Thanks and have a nice
day!
