Hi,
My problem started with copying a parent folder.when I do so I am
getting an error " File system error". Then I opened each folders but
one isn't opening at every subfolders, required files are in that
particular folder. So I tried to rename but it is not allowing then I
renamed the parent folder. Then it is allowing to modify . I think it
is a problem with long file name ( It is little bit long.

Any solution to effectively rectify this.

Thanks to all. San

Hi San!

Windows Server's "File Services for Macintosh" still uses the old AFP
(Apple Filing Protocol) 2.2 file sharing protocol, which is what limits
file names to 31 characters.

For one or two Macs accessing your server on an infrequent basis, I
would suggest using SMB (Windows style file sharing) instead of AFP. In
the Connect To Server window enter a connect string of
"smb://servername" or "smb://IPAddress".

For regular usage of the server and a few Macs, I suggest using a third
party application called Dave from http://www.thursby.com. This is
installed on each Mac and is a much better SMB client than what's build
into Mac OS X. You can download a free demo from their site.

Or for regular usage of the server and several Macs, I suggest using a
different third party product called ExtremeZ-IP from
http://www.grouplogic.com. This is installed on the server and allows
the Macs to connect via AFP (their normal file sharing protocol) but
with a file name limit up to about 254 characters. You can also download
a free demo from their site.

Hope this helps! bill
