"problem reading reminder"

Guest

When I open Outlook 2003, I get warning message: "There was a problem reading
one or more of your reminders." Unfortunately, the warning does not identify
which appointment reminder is giving the problem. Is there a way to solve
this problem so that I can, once again, get reminders?

Thank you for your suggestion. When I did as you suggested, a dozen old
reminders came up. When I dismissed them, I agin got the warning message
about a problem reading reminders. I ran the switch again to no avail. Do
you have any other ideas?

I have exactly the same problem. I found some conflicts in some calendar
entries, but sorted and deleting then didn't help either.
Let me know as well please if you receive a useful suggestion!
thanks , viktoria

I have also just developed the same problem. I tried to follow the
directions about the switch, but I was unable to get that to work ( I am
moderately competent on technical things , but not a techie). Also, from the
previous posts, it seems as if that does not fix the problem. I have also
gone in and taken out all reminders in my "tasks" and checked that all my
calendar recurrences have events ( I think). Can anyone help? In
particluar, is there a way to find out where the problem is so it can be
fixed. Thanks.

What happened when you tried?

This may be a repeat reply. If so, sorry; I am new to this.
I could not find the right thing to type in the run command. I tried
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office11\Outlook.exe "
/switch/cleanreminders and also outlook /switch. They both porduced a reply
that the command line argument was not valid and I needed to verify the
switch I am using. As I do not know what that means, I could not go any
further. Can you help? Thanks.

First, if you put a space after outlook.exe and before the quote, and no
space after the quote and before the slash, that could be your problem. The
web page should not have a space after "outlook.exe" and before the quote.
Second, if you're not using Outlook 2003, the "Office11" may be "Office10"
or just "Office". Look on your own computer to see the correct path to the
Outlook image.

The problem may also be that you included "/switch", literally. Try this:

"%ProgramFiles%\Microsoft Office\Office11\Outlook.exe" /cleanreminders

TYpe it EXACTLY as you see it above.

Thanks for your help. At least something different happened this time. I
cut and pasted what you wrote into run, and it opened outlook, but I got a
message that said "cannot start the reminder service. Unable to show
reminders."
Now what? Thanks.

If I were in your shoes, I'd 1) create a new mail profile and/or 2) Use
Help>Detect and Repair

I have had the exact same problem as all of you, and found another post that
remedies this. I will quote the solution here, and also tell you how to find
the other article.

"tbgg, you are a genious! Just as you suggested I went through the
appoinments between the dates that the error message appeared and sure enough
when I clicked on the one that was causing the problem, I got the error
message. In case anyone has the same problem here are the exact steps to
follow:

1. Bring up your Calendar.
2. Click on "View" at the top of the window.
3. Click on "Arrange By".
4. Click on "Current View".
5. Click on "By Category".
6. Click on all the reminders within the dates that you started having the
problem. When you get the one that brings up the Error Message, delete it
(you might want to write it down if you want to re-enter the reminder). You
might have more than one message causing the problem so I would continue
checking the reminders just in case.
7. When you are done, to bring the view back to normal (normal for me) click
on "View".
8. Click on "Arrange By".
9. Click on "Current View" at the bottom of the menu.
10. Click on "Day/Week/Month" and you should be back to the Default setting.

I hope this helps! I had this happen twice now and I am surprised that
Microsoft does not have more help on this since it seems to be such an easy
fix when you know how to do it."

You can also find this article by searching for "tbgg, you are a genious"

Hope this helps, Chris
