Power in tray shows charging even when 100%

WinXP Home; When my laptop is on AC the Power meter in the task tray
continues to show as charging even after it reports '100% remaining
(charging).
When you plugin to AC isn't the machine supposed to run from AC and bypass
the battery? It seems to me that if the laptop always runs from the battery
thus it being continuously charged while on AC, the battery will degrade
after a short while.

Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Charlie

It will indicate that it is "charging" simply because it is plugged into
power. Should the level of the battery drop, it will begin charging again
automatically. If you want it to stop, unplug it. BTW - constantly being
plugged in to AC is not a good idea. Those batteries need to be fully
discharged periodically.

L Beck,

Thank you for your advice.

All of my other laptops, when 100% charged and on AC, the power icon will
switch from the power plugin with electric bolt through it to one without an
electric bolt through it. Also, the tooltip states "On AC Power" when it is
fully charged. This is not the case with this laptop. Even when it is
fully charged/AC, it shows the bolt and "100% (charging)". This leads me to
believe that the laptop may be running off of battery all the time thus it
is being constantly charged? Else, it is a software malfunction.

Thanks.
