Placing icons on taskbar

I want to place some icons (desktop, outlook express, explorer, media player) on the taskbar to the right of the START icon. I drag and drop but they won't stay there!
 
right click on the taskbar> go to toolbars > select QUICKLAUNCH

also ensure its unlocked thou ;)
the windows taskbar is sweetness, i cant use windows without it.

What happens if I unlock the taskbar? I'm a little afraid to see for myself.
