pending installation?

Well I helped a friend upgrade his computer, that went fine (2k to XP pro)
however office won't run correctly. It gives an error when an app is run. So
we tried to reinstall however it says there is a pending installation that
needs to be completed by a reboot. however after many reboots his computer
still won't repair/remove/do anything to office.

Any suggestions?
