Pass in variable to Excel?

Is it possible to pass in a variable to Excel when you open a specific Excel
document? If yes, would this work if the document was opened via a
hyperlink?
 
In a roundabout sort of way. Set an environment variable, and check that in
the Workbook_Open event.

Yes - I can see how that would work. But - I need this to happen when the
xls file is called/clicked on via a web link. I suspect what you suggest
could be done via perl but I do not know perl/cgi at all.

I'll look at that avenue as well but this is an Excel group, not a Perl
group so I won't bother people here with off topic posts. :-)
