One thing that is not mentioned here, is that outlook 2007 was working for
many people, i.e. sending and receiving e-mails. Then it just stopped
working, sending e-mails, for everyone w.r.t AOL. This means that AOL had
changed something on their servers, corresponding with their work on
incorporating netscape mailling system.
Another cause may be due to a ptach or live update from microsoft which has
changed something. I think that it is more likely that it is the former, i.e.
AOL made a change.
Outlook express works, so you should try to use that, or go to another isp.

The SMTP server ends the connection with the error 454 TEMPORARY
AUTHENTICATION FAILURE.
I presume that the cause is that Outlook 2007 sends something that the
SMTP server can't understand. I think that both AOL and Outlook are at
fault, because SMTP authentication works fine with other SMTP servers.
It seems to be something unique with the AOL servers and Outlook 2007.

It's a known problem with the Outlook Beta and AOL. You'll have to wait
till Outlook is released for a fix.
Do we know what the cause is?
