Outlook 2003 - Change Path for File/Open Data File .PST

M

Mike

My .PST files are stored on a network drive. How can I change the default
path for .opening PST files in Outlook 2003?
I want to change it from the default location on the HDD to a folder on a
network drive.

Thanks,

Mike

You can move your pst-file when Outlook is closed. When you open Outlook it
will nag and ask you for the new location. Note that storing a pst-file on a
networkshare is not recommended or supported by Microsoft for various of
reasons. Couple of the main reasons;
-never been designed for it
-possible data corruption
-possible data loss
-lower performance

The proper way is to keep the pst-file locally and use the Pst Backup Addin
to make backups to a networkshare.

I assume you realize that accessing PST's on a network drive is a recipe for
trouble, is not recommended, and is not supported?

Accessing a pst from a network drive is not supported and leads to corrupt
data - which is why you can't change the default.

My workgroup of 135 staff all have .PST files stored on network drivees.
So far, no one has had data corruption, data loss or lack of performance
issues.
The default File Open Data File is, I suspect, stored in a registry entry.
I don't like but it works. Where can d/I get a copy of pst backup to try
out?

Just saying; storing pst-files on a networkshare is at your own risk. No
warranties and no support.
