When entering an OID in a field what is the maximum length it can be? I
know theoretically they can be up to 128 fields long.

Dave,

You are not just random entering values into a field to identify an object
by its OID are you ?
OID are issued to persons in an hierarchical fashion and you choosing to use
an OID you pick for yourself may well result in it breaking if you are
install an application that is legitimately allowed to use that OID.

Do you understand about the process of Obtaining a Root OED from an ISO Name
Registration Authority

Can you please clarify your use of the OID in this case.

Our company has been issued an OID by IANA, no problem there. When we start
creating the branches for various departments and projects the OID will
obviously grow in length. What is the longest field length that the OID
input fields will accept when creating new attributes/classes? I thought
OIDs could be a maximum of 128 fields long with each field having a max
value of (2**28-1). Do the input fields support this? I seriously doubt ANY
organization would hit this limit but I just wanted to know what is
supported by Microsoft.

Yes, it's actually meant for any OID needs. Active directory schema changes
as well as creating SNMP MIBs.
