On a newly installed centrino laptop running XP Pro SP2, I use the
'Offline Files' feature, synchronizing files/folders with a windows 2000
pro desktop machine.
This works fine, but after every reboot of the laptop, the offline
feature feature is deactivated by the system. Manually reactivating
resumes the service.
a friend's laptop/desktop combo does not have this problem. however I
cannot see any different setup. His laptop did start as XP pro, then sp1
and now sp2, whereas mine got out of the box as XPP sp2, but that's
about it.
I read numeruous usenet posts on the subject, but didn't find a solution
or even cause.
Some point to interference with (Cisco) vpn client - there is no vpn
software on the laptop (yet) or desktop for that matter.
others mentionned registry settings and/or policies. None of those
solved the problem.
It seems no smoking gun is known at this time. So I'll take second best.
How can the "offline files" feature automatically be activated at
runtime ? (using a batchfile for example)
I experimented with sysinternals regmon to see which registry settings
were relevant. But manually setting the apropriate values does not
reactivate the service, something else must be needed still.
any suggestions, help is welcome
a permanent solution even more
