I am using Word 2003. I can't belive the amount of trouble I enconter with
numbering in a SIMPLE document that uses just the default styles. I use the
numbering button on the tool bar. I've encountered these problems on mutiple
machines so they are not unique to my installation.
1. I've instructed Word to not automatically Continue Numbering. Yet,
sporadically, it does it anyway. And when it does it, it changes the
formatting to sometimes more and sometimes less indentation.
2. Often, on a NORMAL style paragraph, when I try to start a new list, the
numbering adds a lot of indentation like "Left: 0.75", Hanging: 0.25" for
no apparent reason!
3. Restarting numbering changes the formatting of another list a few
paragraphs above it, especially if it is a bulleted list.
Don't even get me started about the trouble I have with numbering inside
tables. It's like this software has a mind and will of its own.
Word 97 was the last good version of MS Word.
