ntvdm.exe

I have recently upgraded to windows xp professional from
windows 98.

I have a dos based program that I need to run but
everytime I open it up the ntvdm.exe takes up 100% of the
cpu time.

I have tried to run the program in compatiblity mode but
this did not work.

Please can anyone help??
