I set up a new MB/VB/HD with maxblast to format the 40g HD. XP failed to
install .. the blue screen Stop screen came up. I reformatted the drive with
Maxblast and told it to erase the drive. Now when I attempt to boot I get
the "ntdlr is missing" error and I do not have any means of fixing it. The
drive has never seen W98 or Me and is formatted for XP. Any suggestions?

Any idea which one?

Boot from what? The disk that you just erased, or the CD, or what?? Btw,
you can use the XP CD to format the drive at install time, you don't
need a manufacturer's utility to do so. You do need to change the BIOS
to boot from CD ahead of other devices, until XP finishes stage one of
the install, when you need to boot from the HD again .. the installation
procedure actually isn't very explicit about when you should pull the CD
out, or change the BIOS back, which can cause certain amount of
confusion and looping!

Remove all un-necessary hardware, boot from the WinXP CD, and install
again? Sounds to me as if you are booting from the HD ahead of the CD,
and obviously it doesn't have NTLDR on it .. although it may still have
the master boot record, and even perhaps the partition boot record for
XP, depending on what sort of format you did.

Hi,

Stop using Maxblast, the drive overlay is interfering with the loading
process. Just use the WinXP CD to partition and format the drive(s).
