I have a Tosh notebook running on a 2 machine LAN with broadband
internet access provided to both machines via a LINKSYS box. The
notebook is running wireless on a Dlink PC card and the desktop is
connected by CAT5.

My notebook has been using shared drives and the printer connected to
the dekstop computer for some weeks. Now for whatever reason I can't
see the desktop shared devices from my notebook but the desktop can
see all shares on my notebook. I have check all the obvious,
firewalls, ping, mapping manually etc but it still remains one way.

I have installed every update from the Microsoft web site on the
notebook and all the ME updates to my desktop but no luck.

When you go into network places and click on Microsoft Windows Network
in explorer on the notebook it comes up with the folowing error.
"Unable to browse network" "The network is not present or not started"

Its driving me mad. Someone please help me!!!

About once every 6-8 weeks I see this problem on a similar network with
a Linksys router/switch. I don't know cause other than to report that
powering off the Linksys for 30 seconds, then power-on always clears the
problem.

The Linksys box holds am embedded OS and I think there is simply a
"bug". I've chosen to no do any firmware updates on the Linksys box
since I don't know if that will make problem better or worse (release
notes don't discuss it).

Thanks for the tip but no joy. Still have the problem. Its so weird
that the ME machine can see all the XP shares but XP can't even browse
the network in My Network Places. I am leaning towards a problem on
the XP machine more than anything but I have run our of ideas. Tried
reinstalling all the networking today on teh XP and ME machines but
still no luck
