Norton Programs - Slow Loading

When my XP Home computer boots, the first program to load
is Norton Antivirus 2004. However it sits there in the
Systray with a red diagonal line through it (meaning it's
disabled). About a minute later Norton Personal Firewall
(2002 version) loads and NAV then goes into "active"
status.
Do I have a compatibility problem as I'm not running the
latest version of NPF? Or what is causing the slow
loading of NPF?
Any help will be appreciated. It's not a major problem
but I am concerned at the window of opportunity for
malicious stuff to get in. I do also use the Windows
built in firewall. Is there maybe a conflict there?

I have the same problem with two Norton programs: NAV and Winfax Pro.
Everything loads and the computer is almost ready to go.....and then I
wait for the red line to disappear from NAV and for the automatic
receive to become active in WinFax Pro.

It is very annoying, but maybe unavoidable.

I used to run Norton Internet Security but after a bad live update that
messed up my machine, I completely removed it and now run Sygate. The
slow load of the other Norton programs remains, however.
