Hi, I turned on my computer last week to find my CDROM /
Sound Card / PnP Enumerator had all stopped working, with
error code 39 (drivers missing or corrupted). I have
tried reinstalling the devices, doing a system restore,
and anything else I could think of. The devices detect
and begin installing no problems (except the PnP
enumerator which you have to reinstall manually) but then
at the end of the installation error 39 suddenly occurs.
I would really appreciate any helpful suggestions (save
reformatting).
Thanks very much.

It sounds like you've got hardware problems. If your cd drive, sound
card, and modem stopped working, it is probably your motherboard.
Unless you are skilled at doing hardware diagnosis, take the machine to
a good local computer repair shop (not a BestBuy or CompUSA type of
store).
