Need to check hyperlinks in e-mails...

I want to check hyperlinks while composing e-mails by clicking Ctrl and
the link, but this doesn't do anything. I do not have Word installed,
only Outlook 2003. Do I need Word installed (and use it as my e-mail
editor) to use this feature?

CTRL with a link click is a Word convention. I don't believe Outlook's mail
editor acts upon links in the compose window.
