When I look at Start->All Programs->Startup, I see five
items:
1. "PowerPanel" (a laptop power settings program)
2. "Real-time Monitor" (an anti-virus program)
3. "Adobe Gamma Loader.exe.lnk" (Type: Disabled startup
file)
4. "Microsoft Office.lnk" (Type: Disabled startup file)
5. "VAIO Action Setup(Server).lnk" (Type: Disabled
startup file).

I don't want items 3 through 5 to load on startup. My
questions: Items 3 through 5 show up in the "My Recent
Documents" folder after restarting...have they been
loaded? If so, how do I keep them from being loaded?

No, they are not loading if you have them disabled. If their appearance in
Recent Documents is bothersome, remove them from that list. Open Windows to
Documents and Settings\<your account>\My Recent Documents and remove their
shortcuts from this location.

You could also remove the shortcuts from your start folder since you're not
using them. If nervous about deleting them, move them into the main folder
for each program. When/if you want to add them back to startup, you won't
have to recreate the shortcuts and can move them back into the Startup
folder.
