my picture folders are gone! help!

I just went to look at my pictures and all the images I
have been collecting are gone. The only ones that are
there are ones from yesterday (i think) and today. Can I
retrive them? I searched numerous times and they are no
where to be found. I am really upset, this was my computer
portfolio for artwork, graphics, and fashion designs. I
have tried to run system restore a number of times but, it
keeps on saying that the restoration was incomplete and
that windows could not be restored to the specified date.
Any help would be appriciated.Thanks

just a thought... you haven't logged in as a different
user?? if you did that, you wouldn't be able to see your
pics in the my pictures folder

if not, if you can remember the name of one of the
photos, go to start/search and try to locate it
manually.. might lead you to the location of the rest of
your pics on your system

as a last resort, you could check your recycle bin..
