"My Documents" file names not visible

Transferred files from a W98 laptop to a new XP home pc using network cable
and just plain old drag and drop. The files all came over and the icons for
the files show up, but the file name is not visible. If you highlight the
name(s) with the mouse, they are there and then they show up. It is as if
the font color is white! But not only could I find no place to change the
font color in explorer, the name of files in any other folder/directory are
all completely visible!!!
Any suggestions on how to make these name show up?

Hold down the shift key when in Windows Explorer when you click on the My
Documents folder, it will toggle the names on and off, a feature I haven't
found a real good use for.
