I'm still exploring XP so I really don't know how to correct this. I used
Media Player to find some easy listening radio websites. One required I
download MusicMatch Juklebox. Having no other option, I alowed it. Now when
I look at all my .wav files and try clicking on them, I get the MusicMatch
woindow that wants me to register and downl;oad another update. I did
neither. The damn thing is invasive! I think it moved itself into the
default for playing .wav files... and who knows what else. At least that's
what I assume happened. I doubt if this machine came this way since it's an
MS operating sysem with Media Player being dominant prior to this mess. How
do I get out of it? Apparently when I allowed it to download, I must have
seen the window to register and I chose not to. Now I can't get past that
window.

Q1) Should I complete the registration so I can at least play a .wav if I
have to?
Q2) Once I finish the registration so I can move on, should I look for the
procedure for uninstalling it?
Q3) Or is there a simple way to tame MusicMatch and assign it to the task of
playing only upon demand if Media Play can't handle whatever?

Go into your start menu and look for (set program access and defaults) click on it.
click on custom and then click on the arrow at the right.
scroll down to choose my default medi player and click on media player.
You can either enable access to musicmatch or not.(I suggest not)
click ok and it should be set.

All the best.
let us know if this worked......

Control Panel > Folder Options > File Types
find WAV file extension - pretty far all the way down the list of file
extensions...
change "Opens with" to Windows Media Player - you will need to know the
correct path to "wmplayer.exe", mine is: "C:\Program Files\Windows Media
Player\wmplayer.exe" /prefetch:1
Hope this helps..
Mark

Open Windows Media player. Click Tools, then options. Go to the "File Types"
tab. Check off whatever file types you want Media Player to be the default
for. Double clicking those file types will now open Media Player instead of
Music Match.

You can uninstall Music Match through add/remove programs in Control Panel
if you want of leave it and use it only when you want to.

Key Riced! This thing switched a lot of files.... unless they were
originally set up for this (but how could they be if I just downloaded it?).
Here's what I found that's additional... aside for two that are specifically
associated with MusicMatch itself:
(1) BMO (2) BMR (3) BMT (4) CDA (5) EMM (6) WMA (7) MP3
(8) PLS (9) SAF (10) SC

A) Were all these changed by that one little download?
B) Stuart, if I set Media Player as you suggest, will all associations
for "A" change automatically? By default, is Windows XP Home Ed set to "Use
Current Media Player" like sever of the other settings there or was it set
for "Medi Player"?
C) Mark, I changed the .wav the way you suggested and it worked.
D) Hill..., the .WAV files aren't listed as such when I try your
suggestion.
E) Anybody, if I follow through with that Musicmatch registration, it
won't set everything back again, will it?
F) Is Musicmatch a common media player that, perhaps, I should install?
It came from a site of classical music so... whatever that tells ya'.

98% of the time, I prefer Microsoft products, however in the case of
Media Players, I far prefer WinAmp - its free, very intuitive, large
community and supports audio AND most video. I initially used
MusicMatch with my Dell Digital Jukebox (awesome device !) but hated
it ! I recommend Dudebox by Red Chair Software for the Dell DJ - BUT,
make sure you install the Dell device drivers, then unistall
MusicMatch and use WinAmp for your desktop, Dudebox for the Dell.

Peace,

NC

A)No, you did a default installation of Musicmatch and the default
installation changes all those associations.
B)Yes, it should.
E)Why register if you're not going to use it?
F)No, but it does offer some features not offered by Media Player.
Musicmatch can rip tracks from CDs, it has limited CD recording capability
but if you have burning software, you don't need it.

Just for an FYI, I bought MM some years ago and it caused a lot of problems.
I don't recall what version but, it was installed on a 98 machine. I
uninstalled it because of the problems. It was long enough ago that I had
forgotten even the name. Somehow, I came across MM again, not long ago and
it sounded like a good deal. I bought it again and installed it to my XP
machine. I had so many problems with it that I uninstalled it again,
fortunately, in time to contact MM and have the charge to my card canceled.

Here's the real "hoot". A couple of days after the un-install, I was going
through some old papers and found the receipt for the original purchase.
Only then did I realize that I had been through all that before.

The bottom line, which is really directed to your OP is, I wouldn't
recommend MM. I'm sure many people use it and like it but, perhaps it is a
matter of what other app' you run on your machine.

Start MusicMatch,
select Options/Settings/General
Unclick all of the media types
Click on "Never Reclaim Media Files"
