Multiple Duplicate Outlook messages

This started a few weeks ago. Many of my e-mail accounts have started
receiving duplicate (sometimes up to 18) copies of the same e-mail. I use
Outlook 2002 (on XP Home SP2) and I'm receiving 6 accounts from one ISP, two
accounts from another, as well as other ISPs, and this this duplicate problem
is NOT isolated to one account nor one ISP (that would make it too easy).

I've checked and checked all my settings and even deleted the accounts and
re-added them so they match the ones that do not duplicate...
The "Leave Posts On Server" checkbox was unchecked, I tried checking it...
I tried checking it, closing Outlook, using TaskManager to verify it's gone,
restarting Outlook, unchecking it…
I tried checking it and also checking "remove after 1 day" and "remove when
deleted", closing Outlook, using TaskManager to verify it's gone, restarting
Outlook...

I uninstalled Outlook and re-installed it...
I uninstalled all of Office and re-installed it…

Someone told me about the ScanPST utility. It found minor problems (that I
let it fix) but that didn't appear to be the solution since I got 18
duplicates of a single e-mail shortly after I ran the utility.

On a hunch, I checked my "Add or Remove Programs" list and I see that on
04/13 I applied service to MS Office. Could this latest update have caused
this? Reading the description, I see that this update should have fixed
duplicates, not cause them...

I've asked for help a few times in TechRepublic, and each time I think I
fixed it, then it came back in a day or two (or less).

P.S. I'm also running Norton AntiVirus 2005 with e-mail scanning enabled
(both incoming and outgoing). I've been running this way for years.

That gave me an idea, so I disabled the incoming e-mail checking, but I'm
still getting dups.

In order to disable NAV's mail scanning, you usually have to uninstall NAV
and reinstall without the mail scanning option. Disabling it in the NAV
interface often doesn't really disable it.

Thanks for the tip.
I uninstalled NAV, rebooted, reinstalled but it never let me change options
so it reinstalled with e-mail scanning on. I turned it off via the
interface, but I believe I'm right back where I was before.

Do you know how to install with it off in NAV 2005 (actually integrated into
SystemWorks Premier 2005)?

Also, after a replication (when I get one copy of the e-mail), I look on the
POP server and the e-mail is still there. For some reason, OUTLOOK is NOT
deleting the e-mail after it receives it. Sometimes it does and I get one
copy, sometimes I get over 30 copies before it deletes the server copy.

If you perform a custom install and you are not given the choice, I have no
idea, as I've never used the program.

Again, that is a common symptom of integrating Norton with Outlook. I can't
suggest anything else.
