Monitor Colors and size - problems

For some reason, my monitor is suddently not showing the bright colors it
usually does. The colors look pale rather then sharp. Also the size of the
window that is in "full screen mode" does not use up the entire screen. I
tryed using my monitor controls and I can increase the creen to the size of
the monitor but nothing makes the colors bright. I I use a screen save like
"Moving through space" which is a black background with stars shooting
forward, instead of being black the screen is a dark grey. It is very
frusturating. Any help people can provide would be greatly appreciated.
