Missing Laptop Power Management Options

I have a new Dell Inspiron 6000 - came w/Media Center, but instead I
installed WinXP Version 2002 and installed SP2. When I go to Power
Management, there is no Hibernate Tab; when I go to ShutDown, the Standby
button is not enabled. I called Dell and went thru it w/a tech; we flashed
the BIOS (even though the version present was the same as the latest
available...), removed the battery, et. His ultimate opinion: it is an XP
problem... my reading of forums is that if XP is behaving this way (there is
no hiberfil.sys, etc), it means that it thinks the laptop is incapable of
hibernating/standby, but clearly it is.

Any help appreciated!
