I recently downloaded a set of Windows updates and ever
since many images and icons on IE come up blank. Also,
about a month ago I picked up some sort of adware/spyware
device (searchexe.com) that has been trying to change
and control my IE settings. I don't know if these two
are linked, but it's getting annoying now not being able
to view many websites.

Can anyone help?

I can't help you... I've been having the same exact
problem. Does it happen to you on cnet.com and
download.com?

I found my solution "brsuper" - you need to open regedit
(type regedit in run) go to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT, go to .gif
and .jpg (or whatever files aren't opening) and make sure
the data for the content type is always "image/gif"
or "image/jpg" depending on the root type (and without
the quotes).

Your "searchexe.com" problem is from this parasite.

Try this: Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Browsing
Uncheck the Enable 3rd party browser extensions

If this clears your problem then find out who the malware is.

p.s Reset the 3rd party browser setting.
