Memory problems

I am running 500Mhz processor with 256 mb of Ram with XP pro. It seems
lately, the memory is being depleted quickly. I have all the necessary
programs for ad-aware, spyware & anti-virus.

Anyone have any idea on a preferable setting to adjust under "Performance"
in XP?

XP does its level best to find *some* use for all RAM at all times, even
if just to cache every file so far accessed. Expect to see near zero
'available memory' - a misnomer - unless you have wasted money on far
too much RAM
