May I email the Group Moderator?

I have a problem that's best illustrated by including a graphic in an email.
If it's permissable to email the moderator, may I have that email address?

Thanks

If you have a graphic and it is not too large post it in JPEG format and a description of
your problem and someone will help you.

Switch from the Web Based CDO News Group interface to a News Group client.

The following URL will take you HERE using your default News Group client..

news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.windowsxp.general

Using the News Client, create a new post, attach the JPEG, write your text explaining your
problem and click on "send".

I'm now looking for such a jpg upload option here on my own.

Not finding an option to upload the image, the graphic was the message I get
every time I open a Word 07 doc sayiing, "this file is in use by dwdruley, do
you want to make a copy?" I AM dwdruley. Where should I start to fix this?

Thanks,
Dave

My AOL browser says I'm not allowed to access that website. My previous post
explains my problem and YES I do have the Word 97 WP running on my XP.
Thanks.

Word 7 is pretty old; what application are you using to open the file (the Word 7 doc)? Is the
file on your hard drive or is it stored in some sort of document management system? If the
former, and assuming that you are using Windows XP, are any other users active? Try rebooting
and then immediately try opening the doc. If you still get the error message, I'd just answer
"yes", save the document under a new name, and move on.

news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.windowsxp.general is THIS
newsgroup. Use Outlook Express as your client.

I had a user with a similar problem a while back. Go to the "Recent" folder
in your profile and delete all the files in it. Please post back if it fixes
the problem.

Since I'm on a SS budget and wanted only to upgrade WordPad, I decided to
install my old Word 97 CD on my XP OS. It hated it but I got it done. I then
created a couple of Word 97 docs (with all the WP code embedded that I would
need) and promptly uninstalled Word 97 as it was creating many problems.

The WP has worked like a charm with one minor exception - I get the message
when opening any file that it is "in use by dwdruley" and I AM dwdruley.
There is no option to save under a different name, only to make a copy. Doing
that creates other problems.

Since I have "tricked" Word 97 into giving me the WP and then uninstalled
it, I may be missing something. However, since I'm so new at Word, I thought
there might be a setting I haven't tried and this problem might exist with
newer versions.

Thanks for any tips.
Dave

Thanks. When I click on File it shows me the last four documents opened and I
can click and get those files with no "in use" message. Great! That's better
than a stick in the ear. I'm too new at Word to know how to delete those four
- a right click does nothing. Any other tips? If not, at least I am free of
the problem with frequently used docs.

From TweakXP.com...
"To remove certain documents from the File menu, select CTRL | ALT | - (the
minus key next to the zero key). This will change the mouse pointer to a
thick bold horizontal line. Select the File menu and click whichever
document you want to remove from the list. BEWARE!!! This trick can also
remove actual menu settings such as "Save", "Save As", etc. If this occurs
(or you select the wrong thing), search the C:\ drive for normal.dot and
delete it. Open word again and everything should be back to normal! "

Since I have "tricked" my old Word 97 CD into just giving me let's say
templates, I'll feel safer just minimizing the empty template shell and
select from the last four docs opened. Since I see no duplication in that
list of four, that will solve my problem 90% of the time. Since I don't have
Word 97 insatalled, I don't have the luxury of going to any rescue file
that's outside what was embedded in my original Word 97 docs. Thanks. I'm now
a happy camper.

This is a text newsgroup. It is not appropriate to upload an image to

There is no rule against posting pictures, just your
phobia/paranoia.

No, Microsoft ALLOWS posting attachments to their News Server,
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.windowsxp.general, to support problem
resolution. While NO Microsoft News Group has the word 'binaries' in the name, the MS News
Groups are semi-autonomous of the standard UseNet and allow attachments.

I'm glad you're happy, but if you are on a tight budget and would like a
better word processor/office suite, get OpenOffice from
www.openoffice.org. It works beautifully and XP and is free.

They just don't get propagated for the most part outside
microsoft.public.

Well there 'ya go.

If they don't get propagated to ISP and other News Servers then it is NOT a concern of
UseNet.

Or better, put it on a website and post the query with a link. But a
good description, with quote of text is usually enough
