Malwares

Ben

Malwares are supposed to be took care of by antivirus or spyware
remover.....
Not firewall.
A firewall dosen't really STOP the action of malwares, it just stop the
communications of malwares to a hacker.
So, I can say, a two directional firewall is not really useful.
Besides no body can actually correctly precisely control a two way firewall.
So the design of Windows firewall and Trend firewall.....is right.
They don't bother you at all.

A FireWall *will* stop Internet worms from using TCP and/or UDP ports to invade an OS.

there is no doubt that hoaxes abound on the internet, but i offer a very
straightforward challenge to anybody with the guts to try it.

the next time you decide to clean install, just load xp gold or sp1 without
sp2 or any of its hotfixes. go ahead and install your favorite antivirus
app with the latest definitions. hell, install ten av apps. it won't make
a difference. now connect that freshly installed winxp to the internet
without any firewall protection. i guarantee it'll be infected with a worm
within 20 minutes as the article states. personally, i don't think it'd
take that long in most instances.

Just curious, is this informative, or is this answer to a
post?

it just stop the

a two way firewall.

firewall.....is right.
It is really an information.
Because I saw many people talked about firewalls.
But I could not agree with most of the people.
I hope my information is helpful.

Firewall is needed, but many people say two directional firewall is
better, but I don't think so.
For example, when you use Outpost firewall, it ask you what to do when
it detects an outbound communication.
How do most of the users know what to do??
It is not responsible for a firewall to ask users like that.

Greetings --

On the contrary, that is exactly what a firewall is supposed to
do. What is irresponsible is people who operate computers without
bothering to learn the first thing about computer security, and how to
operate their computers safely. These intellectually lazy users are a
danger to everyone else who uses the Internet.

So, I say again and again, the malware problem belongs to antivirus or a
remover.
When a bad software is sending data outbound, an antivirus can delete it.
Actually, if you go to some antivirus site, they will tell you their
antivirus can help you to deal with xxx.

Why do you insist on denying all personal responsibility for your
own actions. Most antivirus applications do not even scan for or
protect you from adware/spyware, because, after all, you've installed
them yourself, so you must want them there, right?

I know it just like you know your computer programes.

When installing broadband on a machine here the software wanted the
firewall switched OFF while it checked the connection.

Time - about forty five seconds.

Immediately disconnected, and checked for nasties.

Result --- TWO worms and THREE ads!!

So I'd like to see the result of that challenge too.

Well then, won't you accept Bruce's arguments and those of all the others
who have posted and start acting responsibly? Isn't it better to know that
"nastywork.exe" is trying to spread itself rather than allow it to have free
rein on your computer (and eventually others') without your knowledge?
Protecting yourself will help protect the others with whom you are
communicating. Read through all the threads of this post again and ask
yourself "Could I be wrong?" Looks like you are outnumbered, outvoted and,
unfortunately, out there.

yeah, too many folks have no comprehension of what's waiting to nail them or
how quickly it can happen. there's probably plenty of ppl in this newsgroup
with infected machines and they don't even realize it.

Some of that information is old. Robin Rosenberger was in Iraq for a while for the USAF and
during that time the VMyths web site was not updated. Also prior to Rob's call-up, the site
was in dire need of a cash infusion. I believe VMyths had an infusion of cash and the site
will be kept more up-to-date.

Rob can often be found posting/replying in...

microsoft.public.security.virus
alt.comp.virus
alt.comp.anti-virus

This is idiotic. A real software firewall blocks outgoing calls
from programs on the computer. And they call out a lot! Behind
your back, without talling you what they are doing. Without asking
your permission. If you have a real firewall, such as ZoneAlarm,
they can't call out. It gives you control over your own computer,
which is a good thing.
