I recently cleaned up my disc, but lost various files on boot-up. I had
created a restore point before starting, which recovered everything except
all my saved e-mails. The address book is OK. Can anyone help? I have XP Home
and OE6.

If you have selected {(for pop3) in OE Tools->Accounts->
Advanced-> Leave copy of msgs on server, and Remove
from server when deleted} then even if you format OS drive
& reinstall; when you start up OE again all undeleted inbox
messages are returned to you from your ISP's server.
At least, this is the case with my ISP.

If options were previously selected in your case, I'm guessing
that if you remove/add OE Windows component, the missing
inbox items will be restored to inbox, without reinstall of OS.

IE is working ok now ie I can send and receive e-mails, but I cannot retrieve
olde saved messages.

Hi,

........I recently cleaned up my disc, but lost various files on boot-up.

How did you clean your disk?

.........I had created a restore point before starting,

The restore point option doesn't hang onto your personal stuff, just
Windoze files get fixed, like the registry. Depending on how you
"cleaned up", your things could be gone for good.
