losing my internet connection

Hi Group,

I have endeavored to set up a home network(wireless) but to no avail.
Everytime I get a connection between the two computers, I lose my connection
to the internet with both computers which is also set up wireless. Is it
only possible to do one or the other at one time? Why can't I stay online
and also get into the computer at the same time?
The Wizard cannot answer that question for me.

Can someone tell me, step for step, how to set up a small network ( 1 pc and
1 laptop) and keep my internet connection online as well? Please, no
more...www...sites; none of them have been able to help me out with this.
It cannot be that difficult.

Please take a minute or two and type it in step by step to help me get this
set up.

(We are running XP Home on both computers. I have a PCMCI card for my laptop
and the PC is a DLink 520+. What is the problem? We of course would go
Adhoc, but would also go with any other system in that our computers run
wireless with the DLink 624+ Access Point.)

Well I will see what I can do, first off are youn using WEP ?, Second is
did you use the windows update and install the wireless update? third make
sure you have the "let windows manage the wireless connection " unchecked
and use the tools that came with the NIC.Insure the channels are correct
which I assume they are since you can connect.Make sure you have the WEP key
info as you will need this when setting up each NIC to access the
router/access point. I think you have a security issue which is killing the
connection, mine ran great till I used that windows update and then mine
fell apart, like I said before make sure that you do not let windows manage
the connection but let the software that came with the nic do it. Try this
and I will check back on your progress.
