Halp! Issue surfaced in the last 24 hrs. Computer
trouble-free since purchase in August of 2003 (E Machines
T2605). My daughter's computer (running Windows XP Home)
won't let her log on. She enters her password, windows
tells her its selecting her user preferences, then
immediately logs her off! Computer now unusable. It's
not an issue with her password. Don't want to eviscerate
all her other programs by using the restore CDs option.
Any suggestions?

Try doing a user remove and then readd.

You can do a nondestructive recover using the eMachines CD if you need to.

This can be the result of removing spyware. See if this link helps:

Unable to Log On To Windows XP After Removing wsaupdater.exe
http://www.lavasofthelp.com/articles/v6/04/06/0901.html

if that doesn't work see this:

A User Logon Request Is Rejected Without Any Messages

If it is from the spyware removal issue make sure you do a thorough scan
for malware using a combination of programs and a recent and up to date
AV program.
