Hello, We have a small business running a windows 2003
server with 12 computers running windows xp pro. The
server is used as a file and print server only. Some of
the machines seem to take a long time to log into the
server. The screen saying loading your personal settings
sits there up to 2 to 3 minutes and then lets us login
like normal and then everything runs great. I have tried
putting in a static dns address and that really didn't
make a difference. The users are administrators on their
computers. Any ideas as to why it takes so long on that
screen would be of great help. Thanks

Is your server set up as a domain controller? And do your users have
roaming profiles? Change them to local if so. <Control Panel, System,
Advanced, User Profiles, Settings, Change Type>

Also check the settings in Internet Explorer for temp files <Tools,
Internet Options, Settings> - the default amount of space is insanely
high if you have a huge hard drive. I keep mine set to a two digit
value.
