Hi all

Let me shortly explain my situation:

I installed Windows XP Pro with SP2 and all the latest patches from the
Microsoft site. Right after setup of XP Pro I created myself a limited user
account. I installed also a series of application programs. I installed all
these programs under the built-in administrator account.

I have all short cuts to the programs in the start menu under the "All
Users" profile.

As administrator (and any other account with administrator privileges),
everything works fine. I can access all my nice little programs from the
start menu. But when I switch to my limited user account the programs are
"listed" but no icon is shown and I cannot run any program except the
following:

Rational Rose, Ahead Nero Burning Rom, all applications under "System tools
/ Administration??? [Verwaltung]", FreePDF (under Accessoires) and Adressbook
from "Accessoires".

I cannot access applications like Microsoft Office (Word and Excel),
CorelDraw, Eclipse etc.

When I navigate to the e.g. Microsoft Office folder I can run "winword.exe"
without any problem.

I browsed to the "All users" profile under my limited user account and
investigated the links in the start menu. Some of them are valid but for most
of them it is shown that the link is not a valid link ("Dies ist keine
gültige Verknüpfung"). With the administrator account they are valid links.

I assume that it has something to do with file system privileges. Since I
did not change them I am quite confused. How I can check that I have proper
file access privileges?

I checked some web sites from google and a yahoo blogger (proposed in this
forum). I also read some of the "promising" forum posts but could not find
any answer.

I appreciate your help.

Ok, found the problem.

Indeed it was a problem with file permissions. Because I installed all
applications using the administrator account the file permissions in the "All
users" folder where restricted to administrators only. After fighting with XP
for the whole night to show the security dialog (just disable "Basic network
shares") I reset the file permissions and now everything works fine, except
CorelDraw 10 which still insists on administrator privileges.
