ME:

I ran Analog X's DLL archive program ... it came up with hundreds to
archive .. I figured it would be safe to archive cuz' it had a restore
button. When I hit "archive" I got all kinds of error message from
Microsoft, so i told Analog X to "Restore". My computer seems to work
fine except that
I cannot access the "Help and Support Center" and System Restore
doesn't work.

When I try to acces System Restore absolutely nothing happens .. when
I try to access Help & Support, I get an error message "Marscore.dll
not found". I found it on the Internet and put it in System32 folder
and in PC Health/Binaries folder .. rebooted .. didn't help. I then
ran "regsvr32 C:\windows\System32\Marscore.dll
It came up with this error message:
Load Library ("c:\windows\system32\marscore.dll") failed -- A
Dynamic Link Library (DLL) initialization
routine failed.

Please help me .. I feel so stupid! I even tried booting in safe mode
to access System Restore, but when I click on it, nothing happened
then either ... how can System Restore save us from our stupid selves
if we can't get to it?

Thanks in advance for all your help

YOU:

hi

start
run
sfc /scannow
make sure you have your windows installation cd

should hopefully put back any dll's that are missing.

if it doesn't work let me know.

thanks

ME AGAIN:

Thanks for the suggestion ... but when I run that program it says
"Insert your Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 CD Now" The
problem is my OS is Windows XP Home version with SP1 ... it came
pre-loaded from Dell. I have the original OS CD from Dell titled
"Re-installation CD ... Microsoft XP Home Edition Including Service
Pack 1". Why is it erroneously thinking that I have XP Professional
with SP2 instead of Winows XP Home with SP1 installed?
Thanks again for your help ...

Lavan,
I went out on the Internet and found a way to solve the sfc /scannow
problem. I downloaded the I386 folder from my installation disk to my
harddrive and change the Source Path in the registry to c:\.
I was able to run sfc \scannow with no problems ... but it didn't fix
anything. i still get the "Load Library marscore.dll failed a DLL
initialization routine.

Do you know of any secret way to get System restore to work so that I
can just restore to day before yesterday?

Lavan,
I did the trick with copying the I386 folder onto my hard drive and
then changing the Source Path in my Registry to c:\ and now sfc
/scannow works just fine.
HOWEVER, it did not improve my situation at all ... I still cannot
access System restore and I still the get Marscore.dll not found error
and the same "failed DLL initialization routine" error when I try to
register marscore.dll

Any hint on how to access System Restore so that i can just restore it
back to day before yesterday?

Hi

I think I posted a responce in your original post

I've had a look and mascore.dll is located in the c:\windows\pchealth\binaries folder if i remember correctly, have you tried to to register into that folder, it would have failed in the windows\system32 folder as regserver would not have found it

The other way is to do an upgrade to get you back to your base installation of windows xp, it won't uninstall anything but you will need to back your important files up and do a windows update after
