Yeah, update kb828028. It's sucking down my memory like nobody's
business. It does it randomly. I didn't have any problems before
.intalled the update. I think I'm just going to uninstall it. Unless
somebody has a better idea.
I had the same problem -- system was running perfectly and was completely up
to date on all patches, critical and non-critical. I installed this
critical patch and have several symptoms:
1) Start > Settings > Network Connections takes a FULL 30 seconds to
finally tell me "(empty)", even though I launch IE and connect (like for
this email, and it still says (empty).
2) The network connection (LAN via NIC to cable modem) takes longer than
ever to reach a connection
3) I lost my sound -- 3 of the 9 drivers under my Sound card devices have
the yellow (!) symbol and are not starting and reporting corrupt (code 39),
4) time to shut down (for restart) is very long -- it used to shut down
in 5 seconds or so, and now takes 30 - 90 seconds to finally give up
whatever it was doing and finally shut down. Actually had to push reset
once after waiting 2 full minutes for shutdown.
I did system restore back to before I had installed that update and whatever
the source of the problem is still lingering.
This bites. Hey, MS -- can you test your critical updates better, or people
will hesitate to install them!!!
