Is anyone having any problem using Kapersky AntiVirus and
Kapersky AntiHacker (firewall?) with WIndows XP sp2?

I just installed System Mechanic Pro 5.0 which came with
Kapersky Antivirus and AntiHacker. Previously, I was using
System Mechanic 4 which included Panda Platinum 7 (anti virus
and firewall) which was apparently working well.

Two things immediately I immediately became aware of with the
new package using Kapersky. First off, the Security Center says
I have NO firewall installed, and that Panda is stopped. (of course it
is, I uninstalled it prior to installing the new version of System Mech.)
But, it makes no mention that Kapersky Firewall is installed.

Secondly, Kapersky seems to be allowing EVERYTHING. Even if I set it
to 'HIGH' and even STEALTH mode .... everything is working, contacting
the internet at will. The Application Rules list the basic operating system
componets. outlook express and internet explorer as allowed, but NOTHING
else
is in the allow list .. these include winamp, acdsee, newsrover, trillian
(for icq),
mailwasher (for email checking), Tmpgenc DVD author, and numeous other
programs, all contact the internet appararently at will, with NO reports
from
Kapersky, No blocking or asking permission.

From the Kapersky AntiHacker screen, if I click on 'Show Active Connections'
or 'Current Open Ports', or "current Connections" all three are totally
blank...
With NOTHING listed.... (as I write this, I would assume that my Newrover
(news
reader) should be on one of those lists somewhere)

I have been emailing IOLO Tech (System Mechanic) support, but so far, no
answer. (maybe they close for the weekend)

So, I am curious to know if anyone knows if this behaviour is normal, or
is it just that Kapersky sucks? (leaves me to wonder, if the firewall part
is failing this badly, what's the virus protection gonna do)

Thanks

(email address is @fuse.net .... this thing apprently keeps saying the
post is comming from @cinci.rr.com)

I can't comment on the firewall, but Kaspersky AV does need to be
patched in order for it to work correctly with the MS Security Control
Center that was installed with SP2. However, that does NOT mean
Kaspersky is not giving you adequate protection against viruses.
Kaspersky consistently rates in the top three AV programs for
providing protection.

Apparently, the Kaspersky firewall is also not recognized by the
Security Control Center. Rather than contacting System Mechanic
support you might want to contact Kaspersky support on Monday and see
if they can provide some help.
