Itallics System Font

For some reason, almost all of my fonts in W2K and all of my applications are in itallics now. This occurred following the installation of MS Flight Simulator 2004. I wouldn't think 2004 did anything like that but you never know. It could also be a coincidence that something else happened behind the scenes. Does anyone know how to set the view back to normal font?

Hi,

While looking into things about the registry, I found this. Hope this helps
:-)

The default Windows 2000/XP shell font (for Explorer windows) is Tahoma, and
the default system font (for System Properties, Device Manager etc) is MS
Sans Serif. If you're bored with the defaults, the only way to change them
is to alter the Registry. Open Regedit and go to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\FontSubstitutes

Edit the "MS Shell Dlg" String Value [REG_SZ] in the right hand pane and
modify its "Microsoft Sans Serif" default value to match any other font name
installed on your system (i.e. Tahoma).
Then close Regedit and restart your computer for the change to take effect.

I looked all through the registry on my own and even tried your suggestion, but no luck. I found one other post on here from someone with the same problem, however there were no replies or suggestions. So I guess no one really knows
Thanks anyway.

Not sure if this is where you want, but you can change a whole bunch of font
options by right-clicking on an empty space on the
desktop>>properties>>appearance...

I found the solution to my problem! Read KB article 304999. Apparently I had either an extra font, or a corrupted one. I deleted all my fonts from C:\WINNT\Fonts and then re-installed them from the W2K CD using the Expand command from a DOS window. You can file this one in your mental file cabinet of obscure problems

By the way, uninstalling and reinstalling the video drivers and video codecs does not work. :)
