Is SP2 necessary?

SP2 is a solid, secure release. It is a major "Critical Update"
for Windows XP and updates over 5 million lines of code,
enabling much stronger security, stability, and affords a tad better
performance benefit. SP2 was extensively tested on hundreds of
thousands of various computer configurations over a period of
many, many months. I would encourage you to install it at your
earliest convenience.

Hi:

I would also encourage to update SP2, as you may already know, security is a
serious problem for all of us now.

However, I wish to remind you to follow the guidelines provided by MS to
install SP2, and make sure you do visit your hardware vendors' (e.g.
printers, VGA, M/B for BIOS, etc.) sites to see if there are known problems,
instructions, or updated drivers related to SP2.

SP2 is a major update so we shall be a little be more cautious.

Hope this will help.

If you update daily, but you do not install SP2 (critical update), you are
NOT fully updated. You may as well stop going there! There are hundreds of
changes - under the hood - that you can not, and will not get from Windows
Update. They are in SP2 - only. Then there are others that can be retrieved
as a single update.

Your choice!
