Is Java Virtual Machine Really needed?

Hello, I just installed java virtual Machione but i was wondering do
really need it or is it just worthles sjunk I installe don my system
 
That depends on what you want to have IE or other browser to display. VM
allows certain graphics to display properly. Thankfully I have a WinXP with
sp1 and it has the old MS VM included. The Sun VM sucks big time as far as
I concerned.
There used to be places to download the MS version, but I am not sure any of
those still available.
