I am running XP Home Ed. and had internet working fine.
Then I added new graphics card, and USB2.0 PCI card plus
asscoiated software. Now my modem signs onto ISP no
problems and shows I am connected but when Internet
Explorer 6.0 launched it can't load web page - " cannot
find server DNS error". I tried uninstalling and going
back to old config but still have problem. Need hint as
to what to try so Internet Explorer sees that modem is
signed on.

Does the modem answer a system query? You do this from the phone/modem
applet in Control Panel. There is a tab for Diagnostics and a button to
click to query the modem. Even if the modem responds, can it dial
another number using Hyperterminal? Open Hyperterminal (usually in
Accessories>Communication) and set it up to dial a phone number
different than the one the modem uses, like a cell phone or second
line. If nothing happens, then you know the modem isn't working
properly. Perhaps when you were installing the other pci cards the
modem got a bit dislodged from its slot. Reseat it and try again. Post
back if you need more help.
