I have a client that cannot access his broadband
internet, on either of 2 computers on a PP network. His
modem and router are fine so are his nic's i have checked
and replaced all. on occasions when you reset
everything, you get on once and that is all. I am
begginning to suspect a virus, but have found none. Has
anyone seen this issue.

I too cannot access the Internet.

I immediately get a DNS error "cannot find server." This
was after I used Pest Patrol to remove adware. I used the
Pest Patrol tool to quarantine adware files it identified
and to delete intrusive registry entries. Right away I
could no longer go online either with Internet Explorer or
OUtlook Express.

Before this, I had to disable the McAfee firwall (v4) to
access Internet Explorer or OUtlook Express.

The problem started with an incursion of very aggressive
adware ("popunders" etc.) in November, 2003. When trying
to use Pest Patrol to un-quarantine some files, in an
attempt to get Windows 2000 to go online, the Pest Patrol
software could not open anymore, and displayed an error
message.

It could be that the adware corrupted the Pest Patrol
software during the last time Pest Patrol was used. Also
it could be that the adware corrupted the mcafee software,
and that the adware also corrupted one or more Internet
Explorer/Outlook Express system files, and/or corrupted
entries in the Registry used for system use.

Maybe when Pest Patrol deleted the adware or malware it
inadvertently disrupted other necessary files. Before
this I used Ad-aware, which did not harm anything, but
also did not help. Pest Patrol did a lot of hard work in
locating pests.

How did it happen that your client got into the present
situation?

Edward

To my knowledge, he just could not acces the internet on
a particular day last week. He has the same problem on
both computers. he said, he didn't download anything,
but i will double check. the error he gets, is
simply, "the page cannot be displayed" IP config says
everything is fine. I need help. I don't want to wipe
his ssytems out, but It may come to that.

Howard.
