How do I install Professional XP on to a hard drive that
has already been reformatted with the format/s c:
command? System was previously Windows 98. Have W98 boot
disk and W98 CD along with XP CD. Computer is a Dell
Latitude Notebook with a changeable drive bay (an a: and a
d:). No internet access at the moment. Help???

Boot from your XP CD.

During the install process for XP Pro, you will have the opportunity to
delete your C: partition, recreate it and format it.

You can boot from the XP CD, it has all the tools to install. If it is a
upgrade you will need a qualifying product, such as your 98 CD. You may have
to set the CD drive as the first boot device, boot from the XP CD and follow
prompts.

1. Go into the BIOS and change the boot sequence to boot from CD. Insert
the WinXP CD and reboot;
2. Or boot from the Win98 start-up disk (with CD-ROM support) and insert
the WinXP and run "setup.exe" or whatever it is called.

Ensure you completely delete the Win98 partition and reformat it to ensure a
clean install of WinXP. Note if you format it as NTFS, it will not be
accessible with your Win98 start-up CD. That's usually not a problem
though.
