Installing Windows on SATA Drive

I have a brand new system that I am trying to install windows 2000
Professional or XP Professional on and it will not allow me to do this. I am
using: LanParty UT nF4 SLI-D, ATX, socket 939 motherboard by DFI; AMD Athlon
64, 3200+ processor; SATA Ultra16, 7200, serial ATA/150, 300GB, 16MB cache
hard drive by Maxtor; and, 1GB Corsair 3200 DDR memory.

I went through the BIOS setup as instructed through the manual. Once
completed with the BIOS, I am instructed to insert the system CD. I insert
the CD and press enter as instructed and a message appears stating, "Setup is
inspecting your computer's hardware configuration..." and that is all I get.
The message stays there forever.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. (Oh, I tried setting the SATA drive
on 1 and switched it to 3 with no difference. I also tried with one stick of
memory and also with two and no difference).

Try slip streaming the latest support pack into your install CD.

1. What do you mean by "slip streaming"?
2. Do you mean the latest support pack of WinXP Pro?

Hi !

Many SATA controllers are not recognized as IDE controler. So, many SATA
controllers must be considered like SCSI controler.... You must have SATA
Drivers on floppy disk and press F6 when WINXP CD ask you to press F6...

Hi,

I had a similar problem with an Intel D865PERL motherboard with a Western
Digital 250GB SATA. Does your board have hyper-threading and USB 2.0 support
built-in to the BIOS? The Intel board has both. What I found is that the
hyper-threading and USB 2.0 support somehow conflick with the communication
channel of the SATA drive as a result, the drive "hangs" during start up. I
also noticed that if the system has a floppy drive, the floppy drive light
stays on (lit) when it gets to the hung state. I worked around the problem
by temporarily disabling the hyper-threading and set the USB support to
legacy disabled. Then install worked correctly. After getting XP installed,
I then turned on hyper-threading, reboot and everything was okay. Next, I
turned on USB legacy support and it worked fine. You might have to play
around with the USB speed settings. I found that FULL versus HIGH-SPEED also
impact XP.

Slip streaming is the process of incorporating the Service Pack into the
Install CD so that you do not have to apply it after you install. It
also lets you take advantage of the newer hardware support and bug fixes
during install.

Thanks so much for your reply. I have resolved the issue. I talked with mobo
tech support this afternoon, they had me take out one stick of memory,
leaving one stick in the slot #2; flash the BIOS; and in the BIOS change the
"DRAM Voltage Control" from 2.6 up to 2.8.
It worked like a charm, loaded windows without any glitches and wala, new PC
up and running great.
