I am trying to install a Fireball ST scsi drive onto my Compaq 5100us. I
have moved the jumper on the current HD to Master with slave and plugged the
scsi drive into that ribbon, attached the power connector, and turned it on,
but all it does is sit there with a blank screen and cursor blinking. Can
someone give me a few tips on what to do? I am running xp pro on the machine.

You CAN NOT plug a SCSI drive into an IDE connector and expect it to
work. You will need an add on SCSI adaptor for your Compaq since one
is not provided. ALSO - do NOT attempt to plug the SCSI drive to an
IDE connector ribbon cable as this could very well cause the drive to
fail.

Purchase any good SCSI adaptor from a computer supplier such as
CompUSA, Altec, etc.

And made by a good manufacturer like Adaptec.
