Trying to install XP Home on mates PC that has a Jetway v266B motherboard -
not my choice of board I must admit.

I keep getting a message after first reboot as it is starting install ...

"Windows cannot load installer for CDROM" then another for the Disk Driver
and one for Battery...

I think there is a hardware problem with the mboard - has anyone had a
similar experience.

PS Won't install W2000 either - blue screens..

All input appreciated.

Sounds like that motherboard may be incompatible with both WinXP and
Win2000. Perhaps time for your friend to consider purchasing a new
board or computer.

Hi, Andy. You know the answer - since it won't install Win2k either
you've got a hardware problem. Could be the RAM, hard drive, or
motherboard. Time to do some hardware diagnosis. Post back if you need
help with that.

Hey - Here's how I test: for RAM, I use Memtest86 from
www.memtest86.com. Download the precompiled Windows binary and make a
bootable floppy. Let the test run for a long time so all the registers
are tested - like overnight. Of course, if you get errors right away,
you can stop testing!

For the hard drive, download a utility from the drive mftr. You'll do
the same sort of thing as with Memtest86 - make a bootable floppy. Do
the thorough test.

For motherboard, you can try TuffTest Pro. Frankly, unless you know your
motherboard is likely to be dodgy, the problem is more likely to be
with the RAM and/or hard drive.

Good luck,

Malke

"Don't Panic"

Checked memory and disk but all OK, swapped motherboard with a Gigabyte and
all installed OK.
It was a cheapo Jetway board - have had problems with 2 of these now!

I'm glad you figured it out. Yeah, in the long (or even short) run,
going cheap on your hardware isn't the best decision.

Cheers,

Malke
